Sometimes the distance between the bulkhead and the tiller is just a bit too much for a standard drive rod. These extensions screw into the end of the shaft to make up the difference. They are useful when the autopilot sits far to one side of the cockpit or if your tiller is mounted on a raised block. Having a longer reach ensures the pilot stays within its ideal operating range throughout the entire swing of the rudder. It keeps the steering motion fluid and prevents the arm from hitting its physical stop too early.
