Putting in a new autopilot takes a bit of patience, especially when running the cables through tight spaces under the deck. Getting the compass mounted away from any metal interference is the part that takes the most planning before you start drilling holes. Once the pump is plumbed into the hydraulic lines and the display is mounted, the final setup is just about checking that the rudder moves in the right direction. It is satisfying to see the drive unit start responding to the controller for the first time during the initial test.
